Purpose: Academic review of the website

Description of website: Mathsisfun.com is a free educational website and as its name suggests the content deals with concepts in mathematics. It was developed by Rod Pierce DipCE BEng and is maintained by him with contributions from others. This website teaches mathematical concepts in a fun and easy way to students from Prekindergarten (3 years) to Grade 12 (18 years). It covers Number Theory, Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, Measurement, Consumer Arithmetic, Calculus and Physics. The topics are extensive and comprehensive in material. This website is designed to allow students to learn through problem-solving and project base techniques. The website is also useful to teachers in assisting with activities and materials. 


The evaluation criteria were used to evaluate the usefulness of the website Mathisfun.com for teaching and learning.

In my opinion and based on the score achieved from the rubric I would highly recommend this website to students, teachers and parents as a helpful academic resource.💪 I found that Mathisfun.com accomplishes the goal of the developer. It does make mathematics easy and fun to learn with simple but factual definitions and explanations of concepts. It is very user-friendly and appealing in its layout.  The text and fonts are very clear and appealing to younger students.  The illustrations on the Home page scream excitement and encourage students to explore what is behind each button. The website has an excellent layout, free from errors and all elements are easy to read. It loads quickly and clearly.   Users can navigate easily and the vast number of links allows for optimum use of the content.   Technology has become an important part of our daily functions in every aspect of life such as manufacturing, agriculture, medicine, education and this list can go on. However, on this blog, I will be focusing on technology in education and more specifically, I will be evaluating academic websites and software. I remember when I first began as a teacher over 15 years ago, the technology available to Barbadian teachers was limited and as a student in secondary school, it was almost non-existent. We relied heavily on textbooks that were not very student-friendly, especially for students who have reading challenges and would always have to tailor notes and exercises to meet the needs of the students we teach. Most assessments and activities were paper and pencil-based.
